The Best Ways to Whiten Your Teeth

Whiter teeth can make you feel great, be more confident, and smile more… and who wouldn’t want that? And that’s exactly why there are so many ways to whiten your teeth, from whitening toothpaste to new crowns. Today’s dental materials make it possible to make just about anyone’s teeth look like you belong in the movies.

Safe and Effective Teeth Whitening

Whitening is safe and proven. Hydrogen peroxide, the common ingredient of whitening products, was first used to whiten teeth in 1884…so it’s not new. But of course it’s better now.  We use carbamide peroxide that releases hydrogen peroxide over time so the teeth can be whitened for longer periods of time.

Whitening toothpastes do a decent job keeping your teeth white, but I’ve not seen them really change the shade of a patient’s teeth. Whitening supervised by Dr. Rojtman works. We offer in-office bleaching and take home whitening trays. Both work great and we’d be happy to discuss the pros and cons of each. We are uniquely qualified to help you select the best option for your situation, since we have been teaching dentists about whitening for decades here in our building! The American Dental Association recommends that if you choose to use a bleaching product, you should only do so after consultation with a dentist.

For severely stained, chipped, or crooked teeth sometimes veneers are your best option. Veneers can change the color, shape, and alignment of your teeth…kind of like instant braces that also whiten your teeth. This option should only be used when other more conservative options won’t do enough or aren’t fast enough (like if you need perfect teeth for your wedding in 3 weeks).
